US-Born Basketball Player Obtains Chinese Nationality

Beijing, August 11, 2023

Kyle Anderson, a US-born basketball player who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA, has obtained Chinese nationality and will represent China at next month's FIBA World Cup.

The 29-year-old Anderson, also known by his Chinese name Li Kaier, has been a regular member of the Chinese national team in recent years and helped them qualify for the World Cup last summer. He is expected to play a key role for China in the tournament, which will be held from August 25 to September 10 in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

Anderson was born in New York City and played college basketball at UCLA. He was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 2014 and spent five seasons with the team before joining the Timberwolves in 2019. He has averaged 8.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in his NBA career.

Anderson's decision to represent China has been met with mixed reactions in the US, with some fans expressing disappointment that he will no longer be available to play for the American national team. However, Anderson has said that he is proud to represent China and believes that he can make a significant contribution to their team.
