Beirut Grain Silo Explosion 2020

Massive Beirut Grain Silo Collapses Two Years after Deadly Blast

黎巴嫩政府在爆炸后辞职

85% of Lebanon's grain supply was stored in the silos

A large section of Beirut's port grain silos collapsed on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, two years after a massive explosion that killed at least 200 people and devastated the Lebanese capital.

The collapse occurred as workers were removing grain from the damaged silos. The Lebanese government has ordered an investigation into the collapse.

The explosion on Aug. 4, 2020, was caused by a fire at a warehouse storing ammonium nitrate. The blast destroyed dozens of nearby buildings, including the silos, which stored around 85 percent of Lebanon's grain supply.

The Lebanese government resigned in the wake of the explosion, amid growing public anger over the government's handling of the disaster.
